This book was designed in response to the 2018 ISTD brief Anniversaries. The brief tasked you would analysing and creating a typographic specimen in response. I chose to celebrate one of the lesser known typefaces, Kabel (Cable).
Through my research I discovered that a lot of Kabel’s beauty came from Rudolf Koch the designers own experience and that why the book covers not only the typeface but the creator itself. I was awarded a pass and invitation to the ISTD.
Petroliana: Celebrating the lost artform.
Inspired by love and interest in vintage design of automobilia, I explored and celebrated the beauty of vintage petrol pumps and accessories that can now be considered colllectible. The concept, a series of collectible posters and an accompanying book, informed by a deep understanding of petroliana and collecting habits.
I wanted to highligh the most iconic pieces of design featured on the pumps in the period 1900-1930s, the prime era. All illustrations featured are original exact recreations of the original petroliana.
Awarded the Guildhall Graduate Award by the Portsmouth Cultural Trust and the University Art Collection Awards by the University of Portsmouth.
Grown Up Chocolate Company packaging
This packaging was in reponse to the 2017 YCN brief set by The Grown Up Chocolate Company. The brief said to create an original and inventive packaging design for a new personalised chocolate product.
My concept evolves around mystery and surprise as the translucent paper helps hide the pink type giving you a surprise once you start unpackaging. The type uses humor and confidence to let the customer know of the fabouluse tastes ahead
This was the winning branding concept for the third year fund-raiser quiz to raise money to go to the london show. Us students were tasked with coming up with concepts and then the board voted for which concept to use.
The poster features the actual metal trophy that I crafted for the winners. The poster came in a set of two, with cyan and magenta backgrounds to help highlight the trophy.
At first glance
The poster is a response to the brief set by the RSPB to thestudents for their Live Design Briefs unit in second year. We were tasked with designing an A2 portrait poster that would improve the way in which visitors perceive, understand and engage with two of their local reserves situated within Langstone Harbour. The concept behind my poster is that you can’t always see and enjoy the wildlife present at the RSPB site on the first glance. Through the use of an optical illusion, I hope to make the viewer step back and take a look from a different position to fully enjoy every aspect of the wildlife, and even make them come back
Group resolution for a live design briefs project. The goal of the unit was to create a identity for our own graphic design studios. “Mammoth, big ideas and bigger outcomes”. We lived up to this by going for everything in scale, from the box which was 56 cm wide and 35cm. Inside were a large format lookbook, and we also offered an award to our clients that was over 1m in width
Graphic design without typography is boring design
Graphic design without typography is boring design. A2 poster designed in tribute to everything typographic.
Project surrounding ethical design. Website and E-Magazine developed to advertise and assist in the performance of a gamer, in terms of helping them with anger related issues.
How safe do they sleep ?
A2 Poster as a response to a data visualization brief. The data set collected information regarding animals such as danger, sleep, weight and lifespan. I wanted to visualize the patterns in sleep and how the compare to the relative size of the animal. E.g does a smaller animal sleep safer than a large one as its easier to hide ?
My system is developed to display and compare data using surface area making it visually easy to compare.
